As the Korean Society for Educational Technology marks its 40th anniversary, a comprehensive review of educational technology research is warranted. While such analyses have been conducted for Korean-language journals, no systematic review has yet examined research published in English-language journal ETI. Accordingly, this study aims to examine two decades of research trends in ETI by analyzing patterns of authorship, research methodologies, and topics across five-year periods from 2006 to 2025. A total of 227 research articles were analyzed using a structured classification framework, focusing on authors’ institutional affiliations, research methods, and research topics. The results indicate a strong dominance of authors affiliated with Korean institutions, although a gradual increase in international authorship was observed in the most recent period. In terms of research methodologies, quantitative research, particularly survey studies, showed a substantial increase over time. In contrast, qualitative and literature-based research exhibited a steady decline, resulting in a structurally imbalanced methodological profile. Regarding research topics, the design domain consistently accounted for the largest proportion of publications. This study provides a foundational reference for reflecting on ETI’s academic identity and for discussing future directions.
